This seems to be a common challenge. I've been a remote employee for over a decade and I know Covid hit my peers a lot harder than me. Prior to this, I was self-employed and went to an office. Even so, it was still work from home technically, just a second home. I've worked for a Fortune 500 and someday would love to be at Amazon, Google or Microsoft for many of the reasons you outlined.
