Razer Laptop — My Take on a Premium Device
Is it worth the premium price?
I have always coveted having a Razer laptop. I’m a power user and a bit of a gamer, so my choice of laptop has reflected that. My recent selections have included an Eluktronics Max-17, Dell XPS 15 and a Lenovo Legion 15.
I’ve been relatively happy with each of my selections, but I still have been a bit envious of my friend and his Razer 15. Recently, I finished up some side work and had the opportunity to purchase a new laptop and finally pulled the trigger on a Razer 15.
I always look for deals on laptops, so I watched Amazon for open box units and spotted a Razer 15 2020 with an RTX 2080 and decided that was the right way to go.
Why Razer?
Razer laptops tend to command a premium price. If you start looking around, you find that you can pick up similarly equipped laptops for less, sometimes a lot less, from other manufacturers such as Asus, Acer or MSI. When I was looking, I found several options from HP that seemed like a steal.
The question becomes, why Razer? For me, the choice was driven by the desire to pick up something with a bit more of a quality build. I’ve owned those other laptops and they generally make pretty good stuff, but they often felt like they cut corners.
